The Importance of Wax Injection
Any metallic object subject to the elements will invariably deteriorate unless it’s either constructed from a rust-resistant material or covered with a protective coating. Cars are no exception, and, as any vehicle owner will tell you, keeping rust at bay can seem like a never-ending, costly battle.
There are multiple ways to keep rust at bay, from regularly cleaning your car’s interior and exterior to inspecting areas prone to rusting. But there’s an easier method that is more of a ‘apply and forget’ method of rust prevention – wax injections. Wax injections, or cavity wax, provide deep protection superior to all other methods.
Vehicle owners often apply surface waxes, focusing on what they can see while overlooking what’s hidden. They tend not to look at the cavities as they are deep and enclosed. However, these cavities are very good at retaining moisture, creating the perfect environment for rust to thrive. This gives rust a foothold to spread to visible areas of your vehicle, making it a case of whack-a-mole, keeping the rust in check.
Plus, cavity rust can undermine your vehicle’s performance and structural integrity without you even realising it. Wax injections solve this problem as they’re injected into the car’s cavities, preventing moisture retention and rust formation. This protects even the areas that aren’t visible, providing you with complete peace of mind.
It doesn’t matter what vehicle you own, whether it’s a modern car or a classic motor, wax injections are a necessity. No rustproofing treatments pay particular attention to the vehicle’s cavities. Surface waxes leave many areas exposed and vulnerable. Wax injections extend to the narrowest of spaces, displacing moisture and preventing rust formation.
Furthermore, wax injections can protect the car from paint chipping away or other damage resulting from everyday wear and tear. Wax injections are hugely important for sealing the crevices of the vehicle, protecting the vehicle from:
- Dust
- Moisture
- Grime
- Salt
Wax injections are especially important if you take your vehicle across different terrains, though this applies less to classic cars. Ignoring the importance of wax injections can lead to your vehicle’s rust problem spiralling out of control. And you could end up spending a lot more in the long run to correct any resulting damage.
8 Steps to Complete Protection
Here at Trickett Welding, we provide a comprehensive Waxoyl rustproofing service whereby we fully seal your vehicle, protecting it entirely from rust. We follow an 8-step process, which we’ll now detail.
The first step upon receiving your vehicle is to power wash or steam clean it to remove any dirt, grime, or salt deposits. Next, we read your spray diagram before drilling 10mm holes where required (don’t worry, these will be drilled at discreet points and patched afterwards).
Once the holes are drilled, we inject box sections with cavity protection wax. We cover exposed brakes and coat box sections and the underbody with Wurth wax underbody sealant. Next, we apply one further coat of wax to the car’s underbody. Finally, as stated above, we plug the holes with 10mm plugs.
To summarise, our 8-step process is as follows:
- Power Wash or Steam Clean the Car
- Read Your Spray Diagram
- Drill 10mm Holes Where Required
- Inject Box Sections with Cavity Protection Wax
- Cover Exposed Brakes
- Coat Box Sections and the Underbody with Wurth Wax Underbody Sealant
- Apply One Further Coat of Wax to the Car’s Underbody
- Plug Holes Marked with 10mm Plugs
