What Is Underbody Rustproofing?

Underbody rustproofing is a specialist process that protects the structural components of your vehicle from corrosion.

In the UK, vehicles are constantly exposed to moisture, road salt and debris which can lead to rust developing underneath the vehicle. Over time, corrosion can weaken structural components, reduce safety and lead to MOT failures if left untreated.

While most vehicles leave the factory with some protection, this coating rarely provides long term defence against corrosion. Professional rustproofing adds a durable barrier that protects vulnerable areas where moisture and road grime collect.

What products Are used?

Many people refer to rustproofing as “Waxoyling”. However, Waxoyl is actually a brand name that has become widely used to describe the job itself.

At Trickett Welding we do not use Waxoyl products. Instead, we use professional grade Wurth rust converter and underbody wax which offers superior adhesion, durability and long term corrosion protection.

Vehicles are carefully covered with protective polythene masking film before any grinding or product application, safeguarding exhausts, brakes, and surrounding components.

Benefits of Professional Rustproofing

Proper rustproofing provides several long term benefits for your vehicle:

A Fully Equipped Vehicle Workshop

Unlike quick spray treatments offered elsewhere, our rustproofing service involves thorough preparation and a multi stage application process.

Full Underside Preparation

We begin by removing underbody trims and wheel arch liners. The entire underside of the vehicle, including inner arches, is prepared so that all metal surfaces can be treated effectively.

Proper preparation ensures the protective coatings adhere correctly and reach every vulnerable area.

Rust Inhibitor Treatment

All exposed metal surfaces are treated using Wurth chemical rust converter. This neutralises existing rust and prevents further corrosion developing.

The treatment is applied thoroughly to ensure it reaches seams, joints and hidden cavities.

Protective Underbody Wax

Once the rust converter has fully cured, we apply Wurth underbody wax.

This coating creates a flexible, waterproof barrier that protects against moisture, salt and road debris while resisting cracking or flaking over time.

Final Reassembly & Inspection

After treatment, all trims and components are refitted and the vehicle is checked to ensure everything is correctly installed and ready for collection.

Full Photographic Documentation

Our rustproofing service typically takes 4–5 days to complete and includes photographic documentation so you can see exactly what work has been carried out.

Why Choose Trickett Welding?

Many companies offer quick underseal treatments that simply spray over existing surfaces. Our approach focuses on long term protection and proper preparation. Reasons customers choose Trickett Welding include:

The workshop has a 5-tonne ramp and sufficient height clearance to work on larger vehicles.

Vehicles Suitable for Rustproofing

Rustproofing can benefit a wide range of vehicles including:

Motorhome Rust Protection Work

Motorhomes need proper rust protection to prevent long-term damage from moisture, road salt, and changing weather. Motorhomes are often left unused or stored in damp conditions and benefit from corrosion. Regular inspections and protective treatments help preserve the chassis, reduce repair costs, and extend the vehicle’s lifespan.
